How to reach Badrinath Temple

Badrinath Temple is directly connected by road, so no trekking is required. The nearest town is Joshimath (44 km). Rishikesh railway station (~295 km) and Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (~310 km) are the closest rail and air connections. From Rishikesh, Haridwar, or Dehradun, buses and taxis go up to Badrinath.

Badrinath Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Badrinath temple is dedicated to lord vishnu, has an opening and closing ceremony annually around late April or start of May, and closing in late October and early November in winter, when the temple is closed, lord badrinath is ceremoniously shifted to the Narsingh temple in Joshimath, where prayers continue till the temple reopens the next year.

Mana Village is the last village before the Tibetan border. It is located just 3km from Badrinath. According to Hindu mythology, this was the place where the Pandavas passed through during their journey to heaven, and also known for Vyas gufa and Ganesh gufa, linked to the Mahabharata.

Tapt Kund

Narad kund

A sacred kund next to the temple, it is stated that Adi Shankaracharya found the idol of lord Badrinath there.

Brahma Kapal

Brahma Kapal is a ghat located near the Badrinath temple on the bank of the Alaknanda River. According to legend rituals of ancestors are performed here (shradh rituals) to ensure moksha

Charan Paduka

Charan paduka, meaning “footprint of the lord,” is located about 3km uphill from the Badrinath temple. It is believed the rock has the footprint of lord vishnu when he left from Vaikunth to earth.

Vasudhara falls

Vasudhara waterfall is a beautiful waterfall about 6km away from Mana village. It requires a trek of around 5-6km.

Satopanth Tal

Santopanth Tal is a higher altitude glacial lake located about 25km from Badrinath.
